We take 6 to 8 hunters a week for Oklahoma
hunts. We try to
keep a number of
clients that will maximize success rate and able us to give our clients
the
attention they need.
A
Typical Day in Oklahoma
We usually wake our clients up around 4 am for a breakfast at 4:30 am.
After that we have our
guides help the clients prepare for the day by making a lunch,
gathering gear,
and then the guide and the client head out to the stand. A
typical day’s
hunt starts a half hr to 45 minutes before shooting light. The night before, we plan
out how long the
hunter is going to sit. Some
of our
clients choose to sit from sun up to sun down where other hunters but we hunt as long as the
hunter wishes and
cater to each client needs while encouragi ng
clients to sit a while. Putting more time in the
stand is an important part of being successful.
During
the midday
hours, our guides will
come up with another spot if a move is needed for there
client.
After the
evening hunt, we all meet back at the lodge for a dinner soon to
follow. After dinner we usually take time for
fellowship as
well as prepare and plan
the next days hunt.
All the food is freshly cooked and
homemade. The
owner’s wife cooks all our meals for the
clients. We serve
hot and cold breakfast
along with coffee. We
have lunch supplies
available for clients to pack including lunch meat for sandwiches and
easily packable
snacks. After the
evening hunt we serve a
hot, fresh dinner for all with a variety of deserts.
The arrival and departure days are not included in the
hunt. They need to
arrive by noon
on the day before the hunt and leave the
morning after the last night hunt.
For kid’s
hunts, I will take $1000 off of the hunt for children under 15 y ears
of age.
Our Guides
Our guides have grown up and have been hunting this area for
many years. All my
guides spend a lot of
time in the summer putting in food plots, putting up stands, and
patterning
deer. We also use
trails cams to find
out our deer population. You
will be guided
by exceptionally good hunters who have taken numerous amounts of trophy
whitetails themselves. You will find after hunting with these guides
for one
day that they are not only very familiar with this area but know the
bucks so
well they have some of them named. They will work hard to make your
hunt
successful and insure that you have a good time.
We suggest to all our clients that the key to success is to stay put in
the stand as long as possible. Putting time in the stand will
give the
client a better chance for success. We
also stress to our
clients to listen to our guides. Our guides put in numerous
hours
preparing stand locations and food plots in the summer
months. They are
knowledgeable of the farms we assign them and listening to someone who
knows
the farm is the best chance for success as well as putting time in the
stand.
Finishing
the Hunt
After a trophy whitetail is harvested,
we first take
multiple pictures, then we cape the animal out.
We then bring the meat to the local processor. Prices vary on what type
of meat client’s
desire. They are
able to get variations
including steaks, burger, jerky, roast, summer sausage, snack sticks,
and
brats. The butcher
is able to ship meat
depending on how backed up he is.
This
process usually takes 3 – 6 weeks.
We do have a top quality taxidermist available close to camp. He has many options for a
trophy mount with
basic mounts starting around $400.
He
will also ship it anywhere in the United
States.
Terrain
and Blinds
The properties terrain ranges from river bottom tamaracks to
rolling sand hills, sage brush, plum thickets, red bluffs, and deep
cedar
canyons. We will also be hunting wheat, rye, alfalfa, and CRP fields.
Most of our stand locations are boxed blinds.
We also
hunt out of, tower stands, tri-pods, portables and ground
blinds.
Closest Airports
The
closest airport is Oklahoma City
which is just under 2 hours away. I suggest a client looks on where he
can get the
most reasonable price on his/her flight. We do recommend a client to
rent a
vehicle but do offer airport pick up for a fee ($250 per person). When a client books a hunt
we will contact
them and give them a list on what is needed.
Oklahoma Whitetail
Deer in Oklahoma
usually stay in velvet through the month of August and some into the
early
weeks of September. Hard
horn starts 1st
to 2nd week of September.
Pre
rut is usually the end of the first week of November.
Our peek rut is usually around November 16th
– 24th. Post rut is
usually the first and part of the second week of December. These dates are rough
estimates on past ruts
but rut all depends on moon phases and weather.
